Bernice Rosemary Madaj, 75, of Des Plaines, Illinois, entered into eternal life on Saturday, February 8, 2020. Bernice (Bernie) was born February 12, 1944 in Chicago to the late John and Angeline (Rozcyki) Madaj. She is survived by her sibling John (Leona) Madaj and sister in law Loretta Madaj and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Eleanore (Eugene) Turay, Virginia (Stanley) Cwiakala, Richard (Alice) Madaj, Raymond, and Irvin (Geraldine) Madaj.
Bernice was the baby of the family and was very close with her brothers and sisters when growing up. After she graduated from Holy Family Academy in 1962, she joined the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth where she was known as Sister Lorraine. While in the convent, she attended DePaul University in Chicago where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She loved taking care of people and enjoyed working at St. Mary’s Hospital and Holy Family Health Center. During her life, family and friends were very important to her. She loved going out to the casinos, on vacation, and on mission trips. She enjoyed volunteering at her church as a Eucharistic minister and lecturer. She loved to watch the birds in her backyard and take care of all of her flowers and plants. She will be missed tremendously.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Bernice's name to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 9-10 AM at St. Mary Church, 794 Pearson St. Des Plaines, IL 60016, followed by Mass at 10 AM. Interment will be at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery, 6800 N. Milwaukee Ave. Niles, IL 60714.
