Beryl Frances Gogola (née Ferguson) passed from this life on December 11, 2018 at the age of 88. Born on May 17, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Irene and John Ferguson, she was the youngest of four children and their only daughter. At 16, she met her future husband, Joseph, whom she married in 1948.
Beryl was known for her kindness, compassion, creativity, honesty and integrity. At 21, she was afflicted with polio and, even though it slowed her down physically, it never broke her spirit and she remained active in many civic organizations, social clubs and activities throughout her life. She and Joe retired to Ocala, Florida in 1990. In 2014, they returned to live in Barrington, Illinois.
A cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Beryl is survived by her four daughters, Wendy Barker, Pauline Johnston, Tamara (Vernon) Reizman and Corinne Gogola; her grandchildren, Angela (Zachary Ginder) Barker, Brandon (Irene) Reizman and Caitlyn Reizman; her great-granddaughter, Raija Ginder, as well as many other relatives and friends that she loved.
In addition to her husband, Beryl now joins her father and mother, John and Irene (née Maurer) Ferguson; her brothers, John, Robert and Kenneth Ferguson; her nephew, Denis Ferguson and her grandson, Rodney Barker, who preceded her in death.
A memorial mass will be held for Beryl at St. Mary Catholic Church, 794 Pearson St. in Des Plaines, Illinois on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10 a.m.
Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
There are memorials dedicated to Beryl, Joe and their lifelong friends, Barbara (née Bishop) and Dick Sterner in Central Park, 1555 E. Thacker St. in Des Plaines, Illinois.
