He was born in Billings, Montana to the late Jake and Theresa (Meyers) Groscop. During his childhood, he lived in 4 states (MT, IL, IN, & KY) and attended 21 schools. It was his life’s goal to “meet a nice girl,” have a good marriage, and stable family life. He felt blessed to have accomplished that goal.
Donald was drafted into the Army in 1951 during the Korean War, and was quickly assigned the duties of a vacant supply sergeant at Camp Cook in CA. He earned Soldier of the Week three weeks in a row, which made him stand out. As a result of his success, he was sent to England to defend an airbase and not to Korea, which was unusual for a single man.
Donald started as an apprentice and graduated as a machinist from Danly Machine and worked at a diecast shop in Skokie, IL. Later, he was a Construction Supervisor for new home developments and owned his own home improvement business. He excelled in supervising the building of many homes and subdivisions.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, backpacking in Glacier National Park, and family time at the lake house in Wisconsin.
On July 18, 1959, he married the love of his life, Barbara (Mueller) Groscop. They were married 60 years until the time of her passing.
He is survived by his children Peter (Catherine) Groscop, Suzanne (the late Neil) Toth and Jeffrey (Kris) Groscop, his sister Peggy Kappel, brother-in-law Richard (Diane) Mueller, and 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Ben), Colin, Amy (Ryan) and Mitchell. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Richard & Curtis, sister-in-law Lynda Groscop, brother-in-law, Robert Kappel, mother-in-law and father-in-law Annette and Herbert Mueller.
