Elsie Hausman Kast , 102, of Des Plaines, IL, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2021. Born on July 15, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Hausman. She married John K. Kast on September 23, 1981, who preceded her in death; as well as her brothers, Charles J. Hausman and Edward T. Hausman, and her sister, Julianne B. Heinemann.
Elsie is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who remember her lovingly as a spunky woman who enthusiastically embraced life and who generously helped any family member or friend in need. She grew up on Chicago’s north side in a very warm and loving Catholic family, and worked at Fannie Mae Mortgage as an accounting supervisor for most of her career, and then as a dispatcher for Marshall Field’s drapery department. As a Marshall Field employee, she loved shopping and passing on her employee discounts to her family and friends. She had many interests which she enjoyed with her family and friends: docent for the Chicago Opera, skiing, traveling, gardening, theater, reading, listening to classical music.
Elsie’s passion for life and love for her family and friends will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a private graveside service on Wednesday January 27 at All Saint’s Cemetary in Des Plaines. A Memorial Service with Mass will be held at a later date when it’s COVID sate to do so, hopefully this summer around her July birthday.
In lieu of flowers, donations to or prayers for Chicago’s Mercy Home for Boys and Girls would be appreciated.
