Evelyn was born and raised in Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin and moved to Chicago shortly after graduating from high school. One of her most significant chapters began when she married Eddie Kutta. Out of their 18-year union came Evelyn’s greatest pride and joy - her three children, Sherry, Laura and Greg. She was employed by Bankers Life & Casualty for over 40 years, before retiring at age 65. While at Bankers, she met most of her lifelong friends, who she treasured. Together, they enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas, as well as numerous road trips. She enjoyed polka dancing, listening to country music and Elvis. Evelyn’s cocktail of choice was a Southern Comfort Manhattan with Sweet Vermouth. Her favorite flower was the orchid and she enjoyed watching birds, especially cardinals. Evelyn was known for having a bit of a sharp tongue, and like it or not, everyone knew where they stood with her. She laughed easily and loved deeply, especially when it came to her children. Her love of the northwoods continued throughout her life, and she reminisced often about her poor, but happy and carefree childhood. After retirement, she enjoyed playing bingo, dining out, word search puzzles, watching old game shows on tv and game nights with her kids. She will be missed immensely.
She is preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Chitko, her mother, Ann (Klescewski) Noha, stepfather, George Noha and her siblings, Rose Piszor, Elaine Kozik, Benjamin Chitko, Stella Zambuto and Ray Chitko. Evelyn leaves behind her three children, Sherry (Kutta) Gehrke, Laura Kutta and Gregory Kutta, and her three grandchildren, Joe Gehrke, Alabama Kutta and Bodie Kutta, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm with a Memorial Service at 2:30pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street in Des Plaines, IL.
