June grew up in and was proud to be a life-long citizen of her favorite city, Chicago, IL. She was raised by her mother Catherine Foote as her father died when she was four years old, and her sister Anita Foote Rosnek who was 10 years her senior and her best friend. Enjoying life on the near north side of the city, June did not go far for her college education. She attended Northwestern University School of Nursing. She was working as a nurse at Northwestern Hospital when one weekend after work she met Nick Comerford. They quickly fell in love, married, and moved into a third- floor apartment on Oak Street which they filled with their first four children. June temporarily stepped away from the nursing profession to raise her family which grew by two more after the family settled on Hiawatha Street in Edgebrook. June reignited her nursing career after a 25-year hiatus to become the Head of Nursing of a local nursing home for 20 years. She was as dedicated to the residents of the nursing home as she was to her own family often baking them birthday cakes and hanging wallpaper in their rooms to make their home special.
June was a loving wife and phenomenal mother instilling confidence in each of her children. When asked if she had a favorite child, she replied, “Yes, one for each day of the week with one day left for your father!” She encouraged and supported all her children to achieve their own successes while instilling a spirit of adventure and curiosity in those she loved. June did not take anything for granted. She cherished health and spending time with her family, no matter how far away they moved from her. She had an immense appreciation for the beauty of this country and took advantage of every opportunity to experience it first-hand in the company of which ever one of her family members could join her. Travelling with June was magical, and she always was the instigator and planner of each trip. She enjoyed travelling “off the beaten path” whether it was seeing covered bridges in Indiana, the rainforest of Brazil or hiking the Appalachian Trail with her sons to traveling to exotic destinations like the Galapagos Islands with her daughters or Machu Picchu with whomever she could talk into going with her.
June, a/k/a Gloria, a/k/a Ma, a/k/a Mrs. Nice was isolated from her family in her assisted living facility due to the COVID pandemic for the last 10 months of her life. It is tragic that such a caring women who loved her family with everything she had was unable to be surrounded by them at time of her death. Her family is most appreciative of Tonette Allen, who was more than her caregiver, a trusted and loved friend, who went above and beyond in making the last months of her life the best they could be and giving care to a woman who made a career of it.
