Maria E. Harczos, 84, passed away on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. She passed away after a brief illness while surrounded by family. Maria was born in 1939 in Barrio Voladoras, Moca, Puerto Rico to Angel and Carmen (Arizga) Perez.
After growing up on a farm in Moca, Puerto Rico, Maria moved to Chicago with her Mother, sisters and brothers. She married her now deceased husband, Laszlo Harczos, and they raised their two daughters in Evanston, IL.
Maria was a dedicated employee in the Purchasing Department of Shure Brothers for over 30 years. Shure Brothers at the time was located in Evanston, IL, just a short walk from the Harczos house. She walked to work almost every day.
Maria loved gardening, shopping, but most of all she loved her family and every community that she lived in. She also loved to help anyone in need, be it her family or friend. She was a very active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Parish in Albany Park, Chicago, where she gave so much of her time and energy. She will be missed - A long life well lived!
Maria is survived by her daughters Gina (Jay) Lair and Gail (Patrick) Creen; her cherished grandchildren Riley and Samantha; grand-dog Libby; her sisters Elba, Theresa, Nellie and her brothers Joe and Frank. And her many many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Angel and Carmen, her husband Laszlo, her sisters Lulu and Rosa, her brothers Angel, Tony, and Louis, as well as her dogs Friskey and Mysty and grand-dogs Pugsly, Betty, Charlie and Grizzly.
A visitation will be held for Maria from 2pm - 6pm on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, April 29th, 2024 at Oehler Funeral Home. A graveside committal will follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery in Niles, IL.
Memorial donations may be made in Maria's name to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org or the Anti-Cruelty Society at anticruelty.org.
