Marjorie (Hood) Kunberger passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Bradenton, FL. She was born on Nov. 15, 1923, in Cook County, IL. to Sam and Irene Lafferty. Marge grew up in Kenilworth, IL, and graduated from New Trier High School. She met her husband, Harry M. Hood, Jr. on a blind date, and married secretly in 1943 during Harry's service in the Navy. After Harry's death in 1974, Marge married Harry Kunberger from Inverness, IL. in 1980. Both the Hood and Kunberger families were blessed to have such a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother in their lives. All who knew Marge described her as kind, gentle, caring, intelligent, giving, cool - instantly likable. She discovered her talent as a painter, was curious and opinionated (yet always polite) and loved dining, shopping, and "surfing the web". Marge is survived by a sister Clella Daetwyler (Bob); six children, Harry M. Hood, Ill, Tom Hood (Susan), Richard Hood (Cindi), Donna Spear (Stuart), Sue Andrews, and Dave Hood (Jan); five stepchildren, Lynn Maher (Ray), Jim Kunberger (Jane), Chip Kunberger (Betsy), Beth Dowsett (Dale), and Bill Kunberger (Lane); 12 grandchildren: Jen Sleece (Scott), Nichole Wilson (Tim), David Spear (Heather), Laura Spear, Braxton Hood, Kim Hedges (Alex), Richard Hood, Jeffrey Hood, Brandon Hood, Dan Hood, Shannon Hood and Tom Hood and the late David Hood; and seven great grandchildren, Gavin, Lyla, and Sadie Spear, Sara Wilson, Lily Hedges, and Hannah and Eric Sleece; 10 step grandchildren, Jeff Kunberger (Tanya), Jason Kunberger, Chris Maher (Katy), Kelly Maher, Laura Kunberger, Mark Kunberger, Lee Dowsett, Willie Dowsett, Katie Kunberger and Kyle Kunberger; and two step great grandchildren: Alex and Anna Kunberger. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016. A funeral service will be held at the Oehler Funeral Home on Saturday, the 17th at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following at Ridgewood Memorial Park, at 9900 North Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, II 60016. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
