

Pastor Samuel Babukutty, was born on October 20, 1944 into the Carayadiyil house in Salem, Tamil Nadu to the late Pastor Samuel Thomas and the late Mrs. Rachel Samuel. He was the eldest of nine siblings, six brothers and three sisters. He was raised in Mundukottackal, Kerala and was actively involved in his local church ministry alongside his father. Pastor Babukutty dedicated his life to full-time ministry in 1968 and graduated from Hebron Bible College, Kumbanada in 1973 under the guidance and teaching of the late Pastor K.E. Abraham, Pastor T.G. Oommen and Pastor C.K. Daniel.
On July 21,1966 he married Lilly Plamthottahil in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. Pastor Babukutty moved to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1973 and served as a full-time pastor there until 1979. At that time, Pastor Babukutty immigrated to the United States. He lived in the south suburbs of Chicago from 1979 until 2022. During his time in Chicago, Pastor Babukutty was actively involved in the Malayalee Pentecostal community. He served as a coordinator for the Fellowship of Pentecostal Churches of Chicago (FPCC) for many years and was an Associate Pastor of International Christian Assembly of God for several years. Pastor Babukutty also served as the full-time Senior Pastor of Gilgal Pentecostal Assembly for 4 years and then later served as the full-time Senior Pastor of IPC, Chicago for 3 years. For the last 8 years of his life, he was an Associate Pastor of IPC Shalom Chicago.
He was a beloved man of God who treated everyone with grace, humility and compassion. He greeted everyone with a radiant smile which he carried even when he was in his sick bed. Pastor Babukutty had the ability to make everyone feel like family and his home was always open to those in need. His faith in God, generosity, sense of humor and calm demeanor were well known to everyone who came into his life. His smile was contagious and never failed to convey the joy he brought into every room. His legacy will continue through the positive impact he had on his family, the members of his church and the Malayalee community.
Pastor Babukutty is survived by his wife Lilly, daughters Beena John and Binu John, son Biju Babukutty, sons-in-law George John and Benjamin John, daughter-in-law Hepzhibha Babukutty and grandchildren Christine, Jeremy, Joel, Joshua, Hannah, Grace and Josiah. He is also survived by seven of his siblings George Carayadiyil, Rajamma Thoppil, Rosamma Varghese, Alex Samuel, Saji Samuel, Shaji Samuel and Jessy Thomas and their families.
A visitation for Samuel will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016 following a prayer service from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 25, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Oehler Funeral Home following a graveside service from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Ridgewood Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 N Milwaukee Ave, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
