

Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on Apri 7, 1944 to parents, Peter and Demetra (Thelma, nee Harper), Javaras. Steve is survived by by his sister, Roxanne (nee Javaras) Shikany. Preceded in death by his sister, Penelope (nee Javaras) Divita and his brothers-in-law, Leo Divita and Charles Shikany. Dearest Uncle of Lori (Kenneth) Aston, Juli (Norman) Bafunno, Vicki (Richard) Strader, Charles (Kristen) Shikany and Diane (Ron) Illium, Darcie (Joseph) Levine and Dawn (Scott) Pfafman. Loving Great-Uncle to Andrea, Elizabeth, Kenny, Cole, Phillip, Anna, Nicholas, Kristina, Kelli, Caroline, Kate, Charlie, Ethan, Alex, Erica, Kennedy, Jax and Ava.
Steve proudly served his country with honor in the United States Army. He attended University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he earned his flying credentials. He began his career with Lake Central Airlines which was acquired by Allegheny Airlines which ultimately became U.S. Airways. While at U.S. Airways, Steve attained the rank of Captain, flying for over 30 years. He was in the position of Aeromedical/Human Intervention Coordinator when he retired from U.S. Airways. He loved flying their commercial fleet, especially the Boeing 767, which he flew overseas.
Steve had many fun years of attending the Indianapolis 500 Race with family and friends. He was a member of the Soaring Eagles, an organization of pilots, and enjoyed their monthly lunches often in airplane hangars surrounded by their beloved planes. Steve loved fast cars, including corvettes, and motorcycles. He had more friends than he could count and loved them all including those in Carmel and Indianapolis, Indiana, Naples, Florida and Chicago, Illinois. He didn't know a stranger. Special thanks to George and Beth Coniglio for their love and care. Steve was loved by all who knew him!
Visitation will be on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. Des Plaines, IL 60016, followed by the funeral service starting at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, 2905 Thatcher Ave. River Grove, IL 60171.
