Alice was born on July 3, 1921, in Berkley, MI, and graduated from Holly High School. During the Great Depression, she attended a one-room schoolhouse. After graduating, Alice worked in a soda shop, where she met her husband, John, and later went on to work as a furrier, then a secretary at GM, and an office manager at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She retired from the University of Michigan in 1983. Alice married John J. Ellsworth in 1948 and dedicated her life to her faith and her family. After her retirement, she spent her winters in Florida and enjoyed traveling around the United States to visit her siblings, children, and grandchildren. Her grandchildren spent summers with her, and she was a source of love and support for them. Alice was a devoted Christian who read the Bible every night before bed, reading it in full 41 times during her lifetime. She also enjoyed gardening, travel, and art, and her faith in God was her rock throughout her life.
Alice is survived by her sons, Daniel, William, and daughter Amy; her grandsons Jesse, Martin, and Aaron; and her granddaughters, Stacey and Tiffany. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John; her sisters, Barbara and Amy; and her brothers, John, Robert, and Richard.
A memorial service in honor of Alice will be held at a future date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to https://give.americanforests.org/ways-to-give/memorial-gift-trees/. Expressions of condolences and other family wishes can be sent to the family at this time.
