Joanne Victorie Wiertella (ne Geisel) was the daughter of John Bernard Geisel, author of many written works about juvenile problems and how to care for them; and Joan Victorie Van Der Molen, a business woman of extreme dedication and loving partner to her husband, both of whom had boundless energy and enthusiasm for living a good life.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 53 years Larry, her daughter Rachel, son Andrew, son-in-law Jason, and kitten Whiskers. Her many friends and family were always top of mind. She was very caring towards them and concerned for their welfare. Joanne loved people and they responded in kind with admiration for who she was and all the abilities she possessed. She knitted, sewed, wove, carpentered, painted, and gardened to name a few. Educated in Fine Arts at Easter Michigan University having received a Bachelor’s Degree, she was truly gifted and the paintings she created during her life showcased that extraordinary talent. Her prize possessions were her grandfathers’ homemade tools and the jewel boxes she collected, but her children were the pinnacle of her success in life.
Joanne loved her pets and all animals really, especially if they were cute and fuzzy babies. Her fearless way of defending family and their rights along with those of women, men, animals, homestead and environment’s natural resources were unyielding. Joanne was a promoter of people who showed those rare characteristics of common sense, decency and integrity. If she learned a poignant message to share, she would repeat it to anyone she met until a new humorous one fancied her delight. We will miss those precious words of wisdom.
Life was easy, living it was hard, but Joanne’s Mother, family and friends made it beautiful for her. It handed out as much as she could bear but she always managed to cope with grace and a bit of stubbornness. We are eternally grateful for the life she lived with us. Like her Mother, she was a rose without thorns. You will always be present in our hearts and memories, thanks for all you have done for us and the many others your life has touched. Your loving family, Larry, Rachel, Andrew, Jason and Whiskers.
