Patricia Ann (Dunlop) Koons, “Pat” of Dexter, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the magnificent age of 86. Pat ultimately was able to take her last breaths easily because she was surrounded by a whole bunch of people that loved her and that she loved.
She was born on March 28, 1937 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to William and Agnes (Currie) Dunlop. After her mother’s early death, she gained her next mother, Evelyn Dunlop, who raised her with the support of a large extended family. Pat cherished her sisters, Barbara and Sandee and her brother Elliott her whole life.
Pat loved being Canadian! She lived in, went to school and worked in Windsor until she picked up and moved to her Aunt Willie and Uncle Dunc’s home in Dearborn Heights, Michigan in her twenties. Her uncle helped her get a job as a telephone operator at the Ford Motor Company, where she retired from and made lifelong friends. She was very proud to work for Ford. She soon fell in love with Leland “Buddy” Koons, they married in 1962, had three children together and made their home in Taylor, Michigan. Buddy tragically died in 1979, leaving her to raise the kids. And boy did she. Her true calling was being Mom and Gramma, she just naturally knew how to take care of everyone. Some of her favorite places were the hockey rink and Noretta Dunworth School of Dance. After retirement, she sold the Taylor house and moved to Dexter to be near her five beloved grandchildren. That also put her closer to “The Cottage” on Patterson Lake, where she loved to spend time with family and friends, and the “Famey” next door.
For Pat, there was no line between family and friends, and she had a tremendous amount of both! She was loyal, loving, trusting and protective of her clan. She loved to throw a party, go for a boat ride and dress up pretty! Fun was a priority and she always had an extra seat at the table to share. She was one of a kind and she lived her life to the fullest.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Buddy, her sister Barbara. She leaves behind a huge group of people that will forever miss her; daughter Marlo and her husband Steven Rojeck, son Leland and his wife Jo Anne Koons, daughter Kristi and her husband Chad Johnson, brother Elliott and his wife Bonnie Dunlop, sister Sandee Dunlop, grandsons Tristin and Chase Rojeck and Elliott Koons, granddaughters Kathryne Rojeck and Maggie Koons, sister for life Ruth Koons, brother in law Don Arney, nieces Debbie Waterer, Julie Byron, Diane Arney, Sara Zivny, Sue Arney, Cheryl Arney, nephews Brent and Jeff Arney, Brent Byron, Steve Zivny and John Harriott. Dearest friends Rose Chaldecott and Gwen Moore. And THE SCHWABS.
She touched so very many lives and has left a legacy beyond compare.
