Barbara Suzanne Hemsley

May 16, 1930December 2, 2018

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Barbara Suzanne Hemsley on December 2, 2018 at home surrounded by family.

She was born in Rowayton, Connecticut on May 16th 1930 to the late Dorothy Raymond and Jerry Di Girolamo. She is survived by her special friend, Jim Langley, sister, Paula Saccente, sister in law, Betty Raymond, son in law, Doug Carpenter, grandchildren, Jessica Potter, Justice Potter, Nicole Davis (Ryan Weir), Daniel Carpenter, and Ben Carpenter, great grandchildren, Jordan, Hayden, Mason, and Alexander. She was predeceased by her brother, Armando (Sonny) Raymond, sister, Dorothea (Dolly) Rose, husband, Benjamin Davis, husband, George Hemsley, companion, Tom Wallace, and her daughter, Suzanne Davis.

She had many joys in life including decorating, travelling, the ocean, walking the brook, swimming, her camp, music, singing, volunteering in her community, and her precious doggie, Penny. She grew up immersed in American culture and theatre, while also vacationing in Nova Scotia with her family each summer as a child. As a youth, she attended Zarephath School in New Jersey. She lived in Virginia and worked as a saleswoman at Woodward & Lothrop Furniture during her marriage to Benjamin. After her marriage to George, they retired and moved to Bear River in 1972, where they spent many very happy years vacationing in Florida and enjoying their cottage (camp) with friends and family.

We would like to thank our Palliative care team, our wonderful VON nurses, and our dedicated home care workers, especially Drew, for the exceptional support, love, comfort, and care during this journey.

I had the pleasure of being her hairdresser during her years in Bear River. She trained me well to carry the torch as Bear River Canada day Coordinator when she retired. Barb was good at whatever she took on. My condolences to her family. I'm sure she's singing and dancing 'til her hearts content.
God bless you all❤️

Barbara enriched my life by the very thought of her smiling spirit as it embraced all that life presented her with - remembering the many places we gathered as a community, at all the fun times shared in my home with her and endless events we participated in over the years. As a beautiful model wearing my silk creations in countless fashion shows and especially every occasion she dressed to kill - we had fun and loved life together - thank you Barb! My condolences to her family as they gather to honor their beloved - know this grand gal will never be forgotten and that her life was our blessing. Prayers and love to you all. We will miss her but thank God for giving this Angel her wings. Love Diane Axent
