Elzear Joseph Saulnier (1927-2021)

Elzée passed away peacefully at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on April 30th. He was the son of the late James and Ether Saulnier.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine; daughter Yvette (Russell Thimot), Truro, son Mark (Shawna) Kingston, NB, three granddaughters Jordyn Saulnier (Hampton, NB), Céline Thimot (Grande Cache, AB) and Lauryn Saulnier (Hampton, NB), sisters Annette Thibodeau (Saulnierville), Lorraine Thimot (Saulnierville) and brother James Saulnier (Meteghan Centre). Besides Elzée's parents he was predeceased by his siblings Ralph, Gilfred, Janine and Delina.

For everyone who knew Elzée, he was a huge animal lover, especially draft horses. He lived for several years on Double EE farm in Saulnierville where he and Elaine farmed their entire younger life together. They had many fun times with his best friends and family, enjoying hayrides, new baby calves, ducks and many more animals throughout the years. He was also quite the avid storyteller. In addition to farming, he drove a school bus for the Clare/Argyle school board and upon his retirement, the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial. He was proud to have driven several generations of families on his bus over a 36-year period.

Elzée and Elaine moved to Truro 7 years ago to be closer to their family. His most special moments were spent with his granddaughters Jordyn, Céline and Lauryn. He was very proud of all his family, but the three girls held a special place in his heart. A celebration of life will be organized later this Summer. Grampie, you will be forever loved and missed.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. Share a memory or leave a condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com.

Dear Elaine,
I remember with fondness the enjoyable time Tom, Joan and I shared with you and Elzee . Our trip to New Hampshire to get our first Belgian Mare “Maybe” was the highlight . The visits to your farm , the exhibitions and horse pulls are all times that I cherish. Perhaps he and Tom are rehashing those memories now as they look down on us with kindness.
My condolences to you and your family.

Elzée gave Christien his first job doing hay - no doubt teaching him the value of hard work. And years later, he captured Aimée’s 2 year old heart with his stories and ice cream treats when Christien and her went for their evening get togethers at the corner store. She still speaks of him fondly. I can only imagine the stories that are being told between him and his other storyteller friends.
Like anyone who met him, we will all hold a special place in our hearts for Grampie Elzée.
Our thoughts are with Grammie Elaine, Yvette , Russell & Céline, and all the family.

It is a sad day to hear of Elzé’s passing. He was a very nice person with a sweet smile who was an amazing bus driver and farmer! He would often visit my father to see his cattle and chat with him in the barn. Even after retirement, he was always friendly toward me and my siblings. Sincere sympathies to his wife and family. May he Rest In Peace.
