

Mannette, Essie Violetta Elizebeth (Dort) - age 87 Bear River, Digby Co. passed away peacefully in Digby General Hospital August 3, 2013. Born in Boylston Guysborough Co., Essie was the daughter of the late Wentworth and Jane (Rumley) Dort. Essie enjoyed their camping weekends in their trailer and she had special love for her many cats; also had a love for cooking. She spent her earlier years working at the Dartmouth Free Press, Queen’s Printers in Halifax. At one time she owned the Leghorn Barbeque at Five Island Lake and worked at the Hi-Lo-Motel. She then owned the Bear River Drive-in, and worked at the Smith’s Cove Trailer Park. She is survived by her loving companion of 43 years Wayne Wright and his daughter Julie also daughter Linda (Richard) Yorke Bass River, sons Gerald (Jennifer) Mannette Pictou,; Harold (Shelly) Mannette Ottawa, O.N; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brother Harold (Mable) Dort St. John, NB; sisters Jean McClair Dartmouth, NS, Gloria (Brian) Hughes, Calgary, Alta, Theresa (Kris) Christiansen Miami FL and Lauretta (Ian) Hamilton, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by husband Henry; brothers Calvin, George, Kenneth and Roy and brother-in- law Noel McClair. Essie’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Weagle, Julie Rice and the staff of the South Shore Regional Hospital, Digby General Hospital, Dr. Bander and staff. Funeral service will be 2pm Friday, August 9 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St, Digby (245-2525) Rev. Simone Wilson will officiate with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bear River.
