On Thursday May 28, 2020, Frank was reunited with the love of his life “Jean” whom he has missed so very much since her passing on March 18, 2019. He died peacefully in the Yarmouth Hospital when complications arose after a day surgery procedure. He is sadly missed by his daughters Cyndi, Barb & Donna, their families and his dog Jenny.
Frank was born in Digby and lived his childhood in Bear River. He went to Oakdene School from primary to grade 10 and received his High School Diploma from Digby Regional High School in 1955. During his time in High School, he was Class President in grade 10 & 11; President of the Student’s Council in Grade 12; Manager of the DRHS Basketball Team and was the recipient of the unique Memorial Cup. He helped his father in the summers as a bricklayer and mason, and actually received a Certificate in the Bricklaying trade. He attended Dalhousie University and received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1960. While at Dal he volunteered on the Advertising Committee of the yearbook. That same year he married Jean Harvey and they moved to Moncton. Frank worked at Eaton’s of Canada from 1960 to 1968 as Management Trainee; Staff Records and Executive Assistant to the Merchandise Manager of Maritime Operations. During this time they had three daughters.
He was a member of the West Lane United Baptist Church volunteering as Treasure, Deacon and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Moncton Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1968 he moved his family to Dartmouth to take a new job of Supervising Manager of Halifax Wholesalers. He was a member of the Steven’s Road United Baptist Church in Dartmouth. When city life became too hectic, he decided to move his family back to his hometown of Bear River to enjoy country life again. He bought a home close to his parents, went to Acadia University in 1972, and received his Bachelor of Education Diploma in Educational Administration, Department of Education. Upon graduation, he was offered the job of teaching Principal at Oakdene School in Bear River and was there from 1972 to 1993. After the closure of Oakdene School, he was a teacher at Clark Rutherford School in Cornwallis until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the United Baptist Church in Bear River and was a Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of Deacons and loved to sing in the choir. He was President of the Oakdene Home and School Association; a Teachers Union Representative: a member of the Digby Municipal School Board; a member of the of the Digby District School Board; a Chairman of the Education Committee of the Digby District School Board; a member of the Middleton Vocational School Board; a member of the Bear River Volunteer Fire Department; Chairman of the Building committee of the new Bear River Fire Hall; a Chairman of the Bear River Cherry Carnival (20 years); a Chairman of the Bear River Economic Development Society; a Treasurer of the West Nova PC Association; President of the Digby-Annapolis PC Association (17 years); a member of the Annapolis Royal Golf and Country Club; a member of the Digby County Exhibition Society; a member of the Bear River Agricultural Society; a President and Trustee of the Admiral Digby Museum; a Chairman of the Digby Area Standing Committee of the Tri-County Housing Board; a Vice Chairman of the Tri-County Housing Board and a member of the Denturist Licensing Board of N.S. Frank had a true zest for life. He truly enjoyed voluntering in the community. Frank and Jean loved to travel. There were many camping trips when the girls were young and in later years they travelled together to many different places in Canada and the U.S. He also enjoyed spending time at the family camp at Lake Joli. The camp was built by his Dad and he was so very proud of it. He enjoyed the Fireman’s Breakfasts and had many friendships within the Fire Department.
Frank had two obsessions. One was his Family Tree. He has a lot of information acquired about his heritage and found it very interesting and intriguing. The other obsession was taking pictures. Every family gathering, special events and people are captured so there are lots of memories to be seen. Frank and Jean had four Sheltie dogs over the years with the last one being Jenny. She has watched over and been company for them since 2016. She has been Frank’s devoted companion since Jean’s passing and will miss him. He loved her dearly. Good Dog Jenny!
Frank was predeceased by his wife Jean (Harvey) and his parents Byard and Ruth. He is survived by his sister Judith (Marshall) Loucks, London, Ontario, and his daughters Cyndi (Alan) Gennette, Bear River, Barb (Rob) Gabriel, Halifax and Donna (Mark) Hersey, Culloden. He is also survived by his Grand-Children and Great Grand-Children Ricky and Tyson, Alex and Ayven, Cody, Kaily (Mike) Shea and Casey, Jenna, Chris (Maria) Maeve and Thatcher, Megan (Corbin) and Addie. He loved his Family very much and was so proud of each and everyone of them. He is also survived by cousins Shirley (Marshall) Isles and Jeanette MacBean-Emino. He is also survived by his second family, Jean’s sisters, Gladys (Harvey) Fraser, Eva (Harvey) Wilson and Joyce (Harvey) Anderson, brother inlaw William (Andy) Anderson and sisters-in-law Eileen Harvey and Shirley Harvey and all their families.

In lou of a funeral service the family will be having a Memorial Parade June 6, 2020 starting at 1:45pm from Jaynes Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby, N.S. to Hwy 101 continuing to Landsdowne Road, through Bear River Town (at approximately 2:00 p.m.) and around The Head of the Tide, to conclude at the Bear River Fire Department Hall.
