The family of Jim Graham is deeply saddened to announce his passing on June 3, 2009 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lake Midway, Digby County, he was the son of the late Nellie and Alton Graham. In the 1940’s he worked with his father as a mechanic on repair ships in the Saint John Harbour, and then was employed by CA Denton Ltd., Little River until his retirement in the 1980’s. Jim was a long-time resident, and respected member, of the community of Little River. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, willingness to help others, integrity, patience and for his kind and gentle manner. He touched the lives of many people who crossed his path. Jim loved Digby Neck and actively fought against two proposed quarries that he believed would have a negative impact on the way of life on the Neck. He was a member of the Masonic No. 65 Freeport Lodge and was honoured for 50 years of membership in 2008.
Words cannot express the love felt for Jim by members of his immediate and extended family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mabel (Kelly); his daughter Pam, son-in-law Robert and grandchildren Ian and Katherine, Port Williams; brothers Emerson (Virginia), Windsor, NS; Beverley (Joan), Enderby, BC; and Bob (Kim), Saint John, NB; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son James Martin; sisters Mary, Willa, Alma and Betty; brothers Henry (Bud) and Haley. Thanks to the staff of the Medical A Unit at the Valley Regional Hospital for their wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. Bruce MacLeod, Dr. Anne Barry, Dr. Mike Mulharin, Dr. Catherine McNally and Chaplain Heather Embree, who all treated Jim with great respect, and helped him deal with an unexpected and difficult medical challenge. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. Visitation on Friday, June 5th from 7-9 PM.
