SMITH, Joseph Jules age 82, Digby, passed away May 24, 2018 at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born on May 3, 1936, he was a son of the late Francois and Chantal (LeBlanc) Smith. In his early years, Joseph briefly served in the Canadian Army and later became a Town Constable for the Town of Digby. Joseph did maintenance work for Hymie and Benny Webber and for Rit Thomas at the Digby Rink. Joseph was employed for many years with the Digby Salvage and Disposal and in retirement enjoyed the outdoors including gardening. He loved bowling, baseball and umpired many years in both hardball and softball. Every year come Scallops Days he could be found keeping time at the woodsman competition. He was also a collector of many things He will be greatly missed by all and his special friend, Diana. Surviving are his sons Joseph, Saskatoon; Richard (Teresa), Digby; step-daughter,Patricia (William) of Wellington; sister, Gladys; brother, Leonard; grandchildren, Lacy, LeeAnn, Spencer, Jessica; step-grandchildren, Jessica, Rachel, Kari, Eric also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Thomas) Smith; sisters, Thais, Mary Rose, Gladys in infancy; brothers Albert and Alfred, Charles in infancy. Special thanks to the Staff of Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown for their kindness, care and compassion. Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. (902-245-2525).
