Meredith Orilla Denton

Sadly we announce the matriarch of our family, Meredith “Mimi” Orilla Denton, age 91, of Digby (formally Westport) passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024 in Digby General Hospital with family at her side.

Born in Digby, Meredith was the daughter of the late Edgar and Vivian (Lewis) Jones.

She married the love of her life, Johnnie, and together had many wonderful years. They enjoyed travelling, camping, spending time with family and friends; she was always life of the party.

Meredith was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed music, chatting on the CB Radio, knitting, cooking, baking and her door was always open; friends of the kids and grandchildren’s were always welcome and always fed. She had no filter, told it like it was and could often be stubborn.

Meredith & Johnnie were married over 50 years until his passing in 2001. Years later Meredith found a 2nd love with Lyman Warren where they enjoyed travelling and companionship for 15 years until his passing in 2019; sadly a year later to the day she lost her son, Floyd.

In her later years she enjoyed visits from family & neighbours, suppers at Roger’s, Christmas at Roxie’s and trips to the cottage in St Andrews surrounded by family. She was a strong, independent woman and remained in her own home until a few months ago. She gave us love, many laughs and memories to last a lifetime. We were blessed to have her in our lives so long, she will be deeply missed and in our hearts forever.

Survived by her son, Roger (Carolyn) Denton, daughter, Roxanne Thibodeau (Paul Theriault); grandchildren, Craig (Diane) Thibodeau; Leonard Thibodeau (Christina Melanson); Nathaniel (Amanda) Denton; Michelle Thibodeau (Andy Amirault); Tamara Denton (Dagan Sorenson); Joel (Emily) Denton; great grandchildren, Jared, Brett, Hailey, Emma, Leia, Kamryn, Kaleigh, Davin, Ella, Josephine, Elijah, Sienna, Amia, and great-great granddaughter, Ellie, several nieces and nephews including special niece, Wanda (Steward) Brown and special friend, Ron Trell.

She was predeceased by her first husband George “Johnny” Denton; son, Linden “Floyd” Denton (Stephen Brooks); sisters, Pauline (Ronald) Gaudet; Lorna (Roy) Davis, and brother, Harry Jones in childhood.

Thank you to the neighbours Terry (Michelle) & Matthew (Sarah) and to Kim and the wonderful VON who helped keep her in her home as long as possible and the wonderful staff on the 2nd floor at DGH and Palliative for their kindness and compassion.

Cremation has taken place, with graveside service in Westport at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to Palliative Care at DGH or VON Tri- County.
