Paul Joseph Aucoin, 69, born October 30, 1946 in Halifax, NS, loving/caring father, husband, grampy, coach and friend to many. After putting up a long hard fight Paul passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary in Halifax, NS due to complications from multiple heart surgeries. Paul grew up in Halifax, NS where hockey was his life. He played for the Halifax Junior Canadiens (now the Halifax Mooseheads) and went on to Captain the St. Mary’s Huskies. He continued to be involved in hockey through coaching many teams over the past 30 years in Digby, NS. His other love was music; he played guitar in the band The Flintstones in Halifax, NS and could always just grab a guitar and play along with anything he heard. Paul was famous for his one liners, quick wit and always making everyone laugh. His rough exterior only covered his huge caring heart, always putting others before himself. It’s undeniable how much he cared about his family and grandchildren. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Ludger Aucoin and Eva Bouffard, as well as his oldest sister Jeanine (Claude) Lavoie. Paul is survived by his only son, Paul James “P.J.” (Karen) Aucoin of Calgary, AB; wife, Deborah Wilson; sisters, Linda (Bill) Ashton of Shubie East, Yvette (Fraser-deceased) Fancy of Dartmouth, Claudette (Ron) Marchand of Lower Sackville; step daughters Amy Wilson and Michelle Wilson, grandchildren, Nash James Aucoin, Wyatt and Jacob Ellingwood, Haley VanTassel and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Digby Curling Club on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the amazing staff at Yarmouth Regional Hospital (ICU), Valley Regional Hospital and the QEII Halifax Infirmary for their support, care and dedication to making Paul’s final days as comfortable as possible. Memorial donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, a cause that was very special to Paul, a disease which directly impacts his grandson Nash. www.cysticfibrosis.ca
