Born in Digby Nova Scotia, she was the second daughter of George and Josephine (Vincent) Franklin.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Keith Wildbore; son Christopher (Beth) and their daughter Lily; daughter Josephine Ettridge (David) and their children Nina and Joel; son Anthony (Adriana) and their son Jacob; son Dennis and his children Dalton and Daphne; loving siblings Wendi Bradley (Steve) and Rodney (Janine); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Lyle Lowry.
Velva was a member of the Hill Grove Baptist Church and graduated in 1969 from the Victoria General Hospital as an RN. She worked first as a nurse in Hull, England, then in Digby at the General Hospital and in the community as a private nurse. In addition, she worked with young offenders, was a foster care provider for 15 years and was an exchange student coordinator for the American Swedish Student Exchange (ASSE).
Velva had a very caring nature which was especially evident with her 6 beloved grandchildren. She loved to tell them stories, send them cards (with lots of stickers) and hear about their lives. She was also a great listener, accepting of all people and was known for her quirky sense of humour.
Some of Velva's hobbies over the years included fishing, picking berries and wildflowers, feeding the birds, reading, and chatting on the phone to people dear to her. She was a skilled cook who enjoyed making extra to share.
A celebration of Velva’s life will be held at the Hill Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, October 9th at 11am. Family graveside committal to follow.
Velva’s wishes were for no store-bought flowers or arrangements, only personally picked bouquets from yard or field. A heartfelt thank you to the support from Continuing Care, Digby/Clare Home Support Agency, VON, EHS and especially Joley. Donations may be made to the Hill Grove Baptist Church.
