Our Beloved mother and grammy, Carol Dawn Hayhurst of Orange Cove, California went home to be with our Lord on May 3, 2024. Dawn was born on December 25, 1941 in Kingsburg, California to Louis and Eileen Edwards. Dawn was the only Edwards child to be born in a hospital.
Dawn spent her childhood in Cutler, California attending Cutler Elementary School and Orosi Union High School where she graduated in 1959. It was during her high school years that she met the love of her life Walter Gene Hayhurst. Walter and Dawn were married on Wednesday, November 25, 1959 in Orosi, California. Their love story lasted 62 years. Together she and Walter built a successful citrus farming and cattle operation. Dawn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange Cove, where she was the choir director for 35 years. Dawn played an interquel part in the development of the Presbyterian Women’s Association, acting as treasure and devotional leader. Dawn was also a member of the Orange Cove Women’s Club, she helped organize and host numerous fundraisers and projects. Dawn was very active in the community acting as community leader for the Orange Cove 4-H, project leader for numerous projects in the 4-H world. Dawn was preceded in death by her husband of 62 wonderful years, Walter, her parents Louis and Eileen Edwards, her sister Betty James and her brother Larry Edwards. Two of the most important parts of Dawn’s life were her amazing faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and her family. She is survived by her daughter Janet Lyn, son Bruce and wife Heather. Her grandchildren, which were the light of her life, Cody (Alaina), Clayton, Jacob (Shanya), Cyle, Chase (Kelli), Whitney (Spencer), and Courtnie (Matthew). Great Grandsons Broc Alan Mitchell, Walter Wayne Hayhurst and Colt Daniel Hayhurst. Sister Margie Dark Mc Kinney. As well as many nephews and nieces that hold fond memories of her. The family would like to thank Dawn’s amazing caregivers: Isabel, Bella, Kiana, Marissa and Shyanne, the entire staff at Quail Park: Shannon Ranch Memory Care and Memory Care on Tulare Street for their incredible care and love. As well as Kaweah Hospice for their amazing staff and guidance during this ‘long’ good bye.
Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Orange Cove, 499 6th Street, Orange Cove, California at 11:00 am on Friday, May 17, 2024
Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at The Ridge Creek Golf Course, 3018 Ridge Creek Dr, Dinuba, CA 93618, immediately following the memorial service, 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that remembrances be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association to find cure for this incredibly cruel disease in Dawn’s name.
