James Phillip Chance was born in the Pocola, Oklahoma on February 10, 1941 to Nathan, Sr. and Edith Marie Chance. Phil, as most people knew him, was the second child born to Nathan and Edith, coming right after his older sister Betty, but also being an older sibling to Nathan, Jr., Stephen, Christina, and finally David Chance. When Phil was about 7 years old, the family packed up everything they owned and moved half way across the country, settling in into Tulare County. While growing up, Phil got a job working at Jostens binding books together which he did for nearly 30 years. During that time, he met the love that would become his wife, and started a beautiful family together, including two sons, and two granddaughters. James Phillip Chance, Sr. is survived by his wife Cheryl L. Chance, son James, Jr., his wife Lesley Chance, their two daughters, McKinley and Kyndall Chance, son Michael A. Chance and girlfriend Loretta Gillies, mother Edith Chance, brothers, Nathan, Jr., Stephen and David, sisters, Betty Ingram, and Christina Bowlin.
