was born the daughter of Luis Van Lawson and Fleeta Lawsor November 19, 1930 in Yale, Oklahoma. She had two sisters and three brothers and at the age of six the family of 8 moved from the dust bowl days to Cutler, California. The family was farm laborers and carpenters. Mom graduated from Orosi High School and later attended Humbolt University and then received a B/A degree and teaching credential from Fresno State University.
Jewel was a giver; she and Artie traveled all the states, several times with their grandchildren. She loved watching TV game shows, Giants baseball, 49er football and Christian worship programs. She will be
greatly missed by her loving husband, Artie and family. We know she is in the loving, faithful arms of Jesus. We do not grieve as those who have no hope but look forward to joining her soon.
She married Eddie Hofer June 21, 1948 and had two children, Gary and Judy Hofer. She taught in Farmersville, Elbow Creek, and Liberty elementary schools in the Visalia area. She was a member of Fortuna 1st Assembly of God and then Visalia 1st Assembly of God where she taught Sunday School and hosted many youth parties. She loved worshiping the Lord, and entertaining young people and adults.
She married Arthur Clarence Dodson in July 1976. She and the love of her life resided on Lovers Lane in Visalia many years.
Jewel, age 93, was preceded in death by Eddie Hofer, two sisters Lucy Boyles, Molly Ricker; three brothers, Arnold, Raymond, and LV Lawson and also Paula Carbhaugh and Dan Fries. She is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur Dodson, son Gary Hofer (Mardys), daughter Judy Breazzeal (Charles), step children Gary Dodson (Elizabeth), and Patricia Fries. She is survived by 3 grandchildren, Heather Breazzeal, Rhys Kuzmic, and Travis Hofer, 6 step grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
