Refugio Ramirez Sr., a devoted father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Selma, California, at the age of 77. He was born on July 4, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to Albino Ramirez and Victoria Garcia Ramirez.
At a young age, Refugio returned to Mexico, where he was raised and educated. By the age of 12, he began working and carried that strong work ethic with him throughout his entire life. A man of many talents, Refugio was a skilled carpenter, mechanic, maintenance worker, and upholsterer. There was truly nothing he could not do with his hands and determination.
His proudest accomplishment was owning and operating his beloved business, Pizza Pirate, where he not only served food but built lasting relationships. He cherished his customers deeply, and many will fondly remember hearing his warm greeting, “Hello, Pizza Pirate, how can I help you?” His generosity extended far beyond business—he supported local schools through fundraising efforts and never turned away anyone in need. If someone was hungry and unable to pay, Refugio made sure they were fed.
Refugio was a man of deep faith, living his life as a true servant of God. He was known for his kindness, humility, and selflessness. He did not know a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He lived simply, always content with what he had, and gave freely to others without hesitation.
Above all, Refugio was a devoted family man. He is survived by his children, Refugio Ramirez Jr. (Diane), Sulema Ramirez Falcon, and Angelica Ramirez. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to seven. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his siblings Juanna Ramirez Gonzalez, Raul Ramirez, Maria Ramirez Lozoya, Benito Ramirez, Eva Ramirez Casa, Adam Ramirez, and Cruz Ramirez, and was preceded in death by his brother Marcelino Ramirez.
Refugio was deeply involved in his children’s lives, attending their sporting events and even coaching his daughters’ softball team. His love and support continued through the generations, as he faithfully showed up for his grandchildren at their many activities and events.
He also carried a great sense of responsibility and love for his extended family, helping raise his brother’s children after his brother’s passing—a testament to his character and unwavering dedication to family.
Known for his joyful spirit, Refugio was a jokester who loved to make others laugh, especially his grandchildren. His humor, warmth, and loving presence brought happiness to all who knew him.
Refugio Ramirez Sr. leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, generosity, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
