September 3, 1937 – August 18, 2025
Arnold “Arnie” Shindler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, just weeks shy of his 88th birthday.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 3, 1937, Arnie was known for his quick, dry sense of humor, his sharp mind, and his fierce independence. He had a gift for making others laugh, and his selfless nature meant he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Remarkably, even in his late eighties, Arnie remained active—still playing golf and walking 8,000 steps a day.
Arnie graduated from City College of New York, where he earned both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA. He went on to spend his career as an economist, working over 30 years for Bankers Trust in New York City. For decades, he commuted from Greenlawn, NY, yet he was always home in time to have dinner with his family—a testament to his devotion to them.
In 1957, Arnie’s life was forever changed when he met Eileen on the way to summer camp. They married on June 5, 1960, beginning a 65-year partnership filled with love, laughter, and adventure. After their retirement in 1998, Arnie and Eileen traveled extensively, exploring over 70 countries across six continents with family and friends. Yet, no matter how far they roamed, their greatest joy came from time spent with their children and grandchildren.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Eileen, his children Steve Shindler (Mary Kay Kosnik), Debra Evans (Eric Evans), and Ken Shindler (Christine Shindler), and his cherished grandchildren Robbie Shindler (Emily Moore Shindler), Danielle Shindler, Natalie Shindler, Sam Evans (Erica Shaw), Abby Evans, Ryan Shindler, Kevin Shindler, Dylan Shindler, and Kelly Shindler.
As we mend our broken hearts, we remember Arnie as a man of humor, love, and generosity whose presence lit up every room. His legacy lives on in the family he so deeply treasured and in the countless lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
