

Louis Gerber, age 92, of Coram, New York, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Born on August 23, 1929, in Latvia, Lou came to the US in 1929 with his parents and five brothers. His younger brother and sister were born in the US. Lou lived in Trenton until the late 1940s when he joined the US Army. Stationed in Germany, he served in the Special Forces as a musician, touring Europe with an armed forces band. After leaving the service, Lou received a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College in 1957 and later received a masters’ degree from CW Post.
In 1955, he married Barbara Baron, with whom he had two daughters. An elementary school teacher in Baldwin, NY, he traveled extensively with his wife after retiring. An avid golfer and tennis player, Lou’s true love was music and he played cello for several local orchestras on Long Island and in Florida until he was in his late 80s.
Lou is survived by his wife of 66 years, his two daughters and three grandchildren, and his sister Pauline.
