Melvin Joel Levy

Mel grew up in Greater New York and Connecticut. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 as soon as he reached 18 yrs. of age. He proudly served his country in World War II in Company C, 56th Signal Battalion in Normandy, northern Europe, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe. After the war he moved to West Hartford, CT to raise his family and start a successful construction business. Mel's business ventures brought him from Connecticut to Florida in 1962 where he continued in the construction business until his "semi-retirement."

Mel married Ann Hinckley Oliva in 1989 in West Palm Beach, FL. They were happily married for 25 wonderful years.

Mel was a heartfelt supporter of Temple Judea, Palm Beach Gardens. He was a good Mason and a charter member of the Amara Shriner Center, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He enjoyed traveling, meeting regularly with his long-term friends and spending time with his family. Mel was preceded in death by his sons Harold Levy and Jeffrey Levy. Mel is survived by his spouse Ann Levy of Wellington, FL; his son Louis Levy of West Hartford, CT; his step-daughter Elisenda "Cindy" Andrews and husband Jeffrey of Cumberland, ME; his step-son Benjamin Oliva and wife Natalia of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren, Alexandra Andrews of Austin, TX and Jaclyn Andrews of Cumberland, ME; his dear friends in Wellington; and his loving nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.

All who knew him came to love his way of telling everyone to "have a great day", which he truly meant.

A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday September 28, 2014. Visiting hours are from 12 noon to 1pm, service at 1pm with a reception following at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 5411 Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, FL. Rabbi Joel Levine will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mel's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to at Hospice at Palm Beach County Foundation, 5300 east Avenue West Palm Beach, FL 33407. Burial will follow Wednesday October 1st at New Montfiere Cemetery, Long Island, New York.
