

Memorial services will be held 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.
Mr. Lucas was born June 7, 1929 in Wilmington, Delaware and lived the early years of his life there. In 1948, he entered the U.S. Army and served for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, four Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. Following his military service, He was employed with St. Lukes Hospital in Milwaukee, WI for ten years. He later worked with American Family Life Insurance Company as director of forms management for eleven years. Mr. Lucas earned his Batchelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin and later received his Master of Science degree there. He was an avid bowler and was a piano teacher. Mr. Lucas has been a resident of Dothan since 1991 and was a member of North Highland Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Lucas is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, John Wesley Lucas and William Lucas, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 58 years, Gloria Lucas of Dothan, AL; a son, Roland T. Lucas, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; five daughters, Cynthia Lucas of Milwaukee, WI, Patricia Albers-Rendessey (Paul) of San Antonio, TX, Tamara Lucas-Stokes, Atlanta, GA, Sandra Parks (Stephen) of Atlanta, GA, Tonya Overall (Lynn) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Charles Roland Stokes, Valerie Albers, Lewis Parks, Thomas Parks, Angelina Overall, Cameron Overall and Grant Overall; great-grandchildren, J-Shyne Stokes and Q’Darius Stokes; several nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.
