Gary Allen McDowell Sr.

Gary A. McDowell, Sr., age 74, of Dallas, Georgia, formally of Cordova, Alaska, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024. The son of the late Samuel Ulysses McDowell and Connie Mae Guice McDowell. He was born November 6, 1949, in Cedartown, Georgia. Gary proudly served his country as a Veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as the owner of Cordova Rose Lodge in Cordova, Alaska. Gary was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Marietta, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Allen McDowell, Jr.; sisters, Gail McDowell Nantz, Lucille McDowell Phillips; and brothers, Ellis “Harold” McDowell, Robert McDowell, Johnny McDowell, William “Bill” McDowell; and his second wife, Gaye McDowell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife and inspiration to keep fighting, Linda Kaye Saylor; daughter-in-law, Brooke McDowell of Acworth, Georgia; stepson, Grey Saylor of Tennessee; sister, Betty Thomason of Powder Springs, Georgia; mother of Gary Allen, Jr, Olivia Shead of Dallas, Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah Grace, Miller Tate, and Ellie Rae; many beloved nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral services will follow in the Rosehaven Chapel, with Pastor Art Brady officiating.

A private family graveside service is planned at a later time at Antioch Baptist Church in Cedartown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Gary be mailed to Cornerstone Baptist Church Missions Fund at 730 Sawyer Road, Marietta, Georgia 30062.
