

James Douglas Chaffin, 65, passed away on August 31st at his residence. He was born to Curtis G. and Ann Hubbard Chaffin on July 14,1958 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Henderson High School and Georgia Southern University with a degree in business. He earned his pilot’s license from the University of South Alabama. He worked in industrial sales before opening his own businesses, which he led for over 30 years.
Jim had a passion for adventure. He traveled the world, visiting over 80 countries on all 7 continents, climbing 5 of the 7 summits, and celebrating different cultures across the globe. He enjoyed hiking, biking, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, rock climbing, krav maga, windsurfing, and horseback riding. From cross country skiing to the North Pole to photo safaris in the Serengeti, he was always trying new activities.
Jim played soccer, rugby, polocrosse, and golf. He participated in triathlons, road races, rowing races, and many other competitions. He was a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan. He was also an artist, drawing, painting, sculpting, and working in wood, stone, clay, metal, and leather. He went on mission trips to help build a church in Mexico and repair homes in the southern United States. He was passionate about charities that support outdoor recreation, protect local ecosystems, and address global poverty; in 2017 he bicycled across the United States for Multiple Sclerosis.
Survivors include his children Curt (Lindsay) Chaffin, Amanda (Trey) Forehand, and Katherine (Dave) Stahl; brother Bill Chaffin and sister Georgia Chaffin Oxford; grandchildren Anna Claire Forehand, Bridget and David Stahl; nieces Cristie (Jamie) Meadows, Julie (Kyle) Seabolt, and Natalie Conner; and many friends and colleagues around the world.
A memorial service will be held at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on 10/14/23 at 2pm with guests being received at 1pm.
Jim requested that his ashes be taken to ten places all around the world. His family will fulfill his wishes in the coming months and years, while enjoying each location in Jim’s honor with his spirit of excitement and adventure.
