Jean (Gilstrap) Manning

25 June, 19269 October, 2020

Jean Gilstrap Manning, age 94, passed away at Brightmoor Hospice, Griffin, Georgia, on Friday, October 9th, 2020.

Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and GiGi, and was dearly loved by all of her family and friends. She was a kind, dedicated person who enjoyed the beauty in nature. She was an active member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta having served as Treasurer until late 2018.

Jean had completed a lifelong career with the Georgia Department of Public Safety. She began her time with the state as a Clerk. She later became an Administrative Assistant of the Highway Patrol sector until ultimately being promoted to the Administrative Assistant of the Director. She retired in 1986 after serving her community in such a wonderful capacity.

Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed dancing - especially square dancing and the jitterbug. She loved the views that the beach provided and could soak in the ambiance of the ocean with the best of them. She especially liked the Atlanta Braves and is enjoying her "front row seat to the playoffs" with her late husband, George.

Jean Gilstrap Manning was preceded in death by husband of 58 years, George Wheeler Manning; father, Rufus Glenn Gilstrap; and mother, Mary Clyde Andrews Gilstrap.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Martha Manning Brown (Bob) and Linda Manning Luther; grandchildren, Robert Glen Brown (Lezlee), Shelly Jean Brown, Dina Suzanne Brown Giles (Jason), Brandon Scott Luther (Kristen), Jeffrey David Luther (Page) and Ryan Douglas Luther (Melanie); 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Martha Nell Millard; and many nieces and nephews.
