

Laurie Cowell Baggett, age 83 , of Douglasville, Georgia passed away at her home in Waleska, Georgia on August 6, 2025. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 5, 1941, daughter of the late Richard Baker Cowell and Margaret Smith “Peggy” Cowell.
When Laurie was 14 her family moved to Panama City, Florida where she graduated from Bay County High School in 1959. After graduation she attended Florida State University and graduated in 1962 receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. During college she was introduced to William Terrell “Terry” Baggett. They married in 1964 and spent 57 years together before his passing in 2020.
Laurie and Terry, soon after marrying, moved to Douglasville, Georgia to begin their life together and raise their three children. They built a house on Chapel Hill Road where they resided for close to forty years. Laurie became active in the community and met many lifelong friends along the way. She was the President of the Ama-Kanasta Garden Club of Douglasville in 1967. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Douglasville where she directed the children’s choir for many years. When her children were young Laurie became a substitute teacher for the Douglas County School System. Once her children were in middle school she became a full time social studies teacher for 18 years and retired from Chapel Hill Middle School.
After her husband Terry passed away in 2020, Laurie moved to Lake Arrowhead in Waleska, Georgia to be closer to her daughters. She built a beautiful house where she lived independently until she died. Her hobbies included many day trips to wineries, breweries, and scenic drives in North Georgia. She loved a concert on the boat at the marina and enjoyed all the activities the neighborhood had to offer, especially Bingo. She loved the Braves, golf, football, and Days of our Lives. Her favorite thing was dining out with family and friends.
Laurie is preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and brother, Richard Baker “Ricky” Cowell, Jr.
She is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth Baggett “Beth” Hobbs, Jennifer Lynn Baggett, and Melissa Baggett (Tom) Roth; grandchildren Joe Hobbs, Andrew (Annslee) Roth, Alex Roth, and Austin Roth; great granddaughter Josie Hobbs; sister Marty (Buster) Hollis, nephew Scott (Debbie) Hollis, niece Holly (Shawn) Knight.
The family will receive friends at Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home in Douglasville on August 17, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 with the service beginning at 3:00. Laurie will be laid to rest at Rosehaven Cemetery following the service.
