She grew up in the Flat Rock Community and played the piano at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Norma graduated valedictorian from Villa Rica High School. After graduating, she took a job at the C & S Bank in Douglasville where she met and soon after, married Harlan Gable, the love of her life. She was an active member of the LOVE Sunday school class and was close friends with the ladies in that class. Norma loved her family dearly and ensured they had three home-cooked meals every day. Of the many jobs and positions she held over the years, the one she cherished the most was being a homemaker and caring for her family. The words "sweet" and "kind" do not even begin to describe her. She was affectionately known as" Noni" by her family.
Norma worked at her husband's State Farm Agency after her children grew up. After her beloved husband's death in 1992, Norma moved to Athens, Georgia, and enrolled at the University of Georgia. She obtained her B.A. in March of 1998, with a major in Psychology. She graduated summa cum laude and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She then moved back to Douglasville, Georgia, and soon became a flight attendant with Delta Airlines, and finished her work career with the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles in the Office of the Commissioner.
During her post-graduate years, she was blessed with the birth of her two grandsons, Hunter and Chase, whom she absolutely worshipped and adored. Norma had many hobbies and interests, including reading, gardening, cooking, traveling, music, and sewing, even making many of her own dresses for a number of years. She was especially proud of her collection of pretty orchids, which seemed to bloom at her command.
