She was born on November 2, 1942, in San Francisco, California, daughter of the late Joe Anaya and the late Ophelia Gomez Anaya. Stella was a giving, kind, and selfless person, who had a knack for finding the humor in every situation. She was the best wife, mom and grandma. If her husband was the head of the family, then she was the heart; always making sure to keep in touch with each person and let them know that she was thinking of them and praying for them. She loved to bake, cook, read, and travel which she passed down to the younger generations of her family. Our family also shares her love of animals, especially Noel who faithfully remained by her side throughout the last four years of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Villa Rica. During her career, she worked for over 30 years as a phlebotomist at Wellstar Douglas Hospital.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Leamon Melton; brothers, Paul, Tito and Andrew Anaya; and sister, Linda Jo Haynes.
She is survived by her son, Michael Melton; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brian Fitts; grandchildren, Michael B. and Kaitlyn Melton, Daniel and Anndrea Melton, Natalie Fitts and Stella Fitts; great grandchildren, Ellie, Nora, and Naomi Melton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Whitley Garner Funeral Home Saturday, March 15 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Kevin Williams officiating. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the memorial service.
