Leroy Whitehouse

Born on August 5, 1926 in DuBois, the son of the late Joseph and Linnea(Johnson) Whitehouse.

He wrestled and played football for DuBois High. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Logistics Support Co 71, known as “Sea Bees” and served in Okinawa, Japan. He worked for Rockwell Corp in DuBois, until he married and moved to Riverside, NJ in 1953. In New Jersey he started The Whitehouse Wrestling Club, which later led to the formation of the Riverside Midget Wrestling Club. He was also an amateur barber and was the originator of the Riverside Mohawk.

Leroy was a proud member of the VFW, American Legion, Sandy Hose Co and 4th Ward Hose Co. He enjoyed spending time over the many years with his very dear and close friends from his childhood(John Marshall and Eddy Stoyek). He also enjoyed hunting, camping, woodworking, spending time with family and playing pool at the Senior Center, with his childhood friends.

He retired from Hoeganaes Corp in Riverside, NJ after 30 years of service. He then moved back to DuBois, to his childhood home where he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillian(Clark)Whitehouse, two sons: David and Dale Whitehouse.

He is survived by his children: Leroy Whitehouse Jr of Beverly, NJ, Deborah Whitehouse Young of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dana Whitehouse of Mt Morris, NY, Eric Whitehouse of DuBois, Dwayne Whitehouse of Reynoldsville and a sister Shirley Bolam and brother-in-law Jim of Jupiter, FL. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Mohney Yargar Funeral Chapel. With Rev John White officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the V.F.W Post #813 Honor Guard at Morningside Cemetery. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6-9pm on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the funeral home.
