Cynthia “Cyndy” Ann Hanna (née Gysin), age 67, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Cyndy will be remembered for her warmth, her ready laugh, and her unwavering love for the people around her.
Born on January 17, 1958, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Robert (Bob) Gysin and Jeanne Halverson, Cyndy grew up in the Chicago suburbs where she graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka and later went on to attend Northern Illinois University.
Cyndy’s career was as diverse and spirited as she was. She spent years honing her creative eye in custom picture framing in both Chicago and Cincinnati, later launching her own residential cleaning business, where clients quickly became friends. Most recently, she was a treasured member of the team at Oakland Home in Dublin, Ohio, where her warmth and wit brightened every day.
An avid golfer and past president of the TCC MV Women’s Golf Association, Cyndy loved the camaraderie and challenge of the game. She also enjoyed cooking for loved ones, playing cards, volunteering at Dublin Methodist Hospital, and caring for the people she held dear. Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome — and where there was always a home-cooked meal and a beverage of choice at the ready.
Cyndy was never one to shy away from a project, big or small. Whether she was hand-making Halloween costumes, tackling countless home renovation projects, or chasing after her grandchildren, she did it with purpose and a sense of fun. Delightfully stubborn, endlessly kind, and always quick to laugh, she had a way of making people feel seen and cared for.
Above all, Cyndy was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Paul Hanna; her children Sean Hanna and Jeanne (Eamonn) Bahnson; and her five adored grandchildren: Charlie and Brixen Hanna, and Ada, Hugh, and Mae Bahnson. She also leaves behind her siblings Michael (Karen) Gysin and Vicki (Scott) Jensen; her stepsiblings Jory Zimmerer, Marci (John) Slater, Bill (Kris) Zimmerer and the late Rick Zimmerer; her siblings-in-law Mary Hanna Seul, and the late John Hanna and Andrew Hanna; and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews — as well as her faithful Chocolate Lab, Layla.
Cyndy was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanne Halverson and Robert Gysin, and her stepmother, Bette Gysin.
Cyndy’s presence was a gift. Her warmth, humor, and generous spirit made a lasting impression on everyone she met, and she will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Cyndy’s life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with friends and family once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Cyndy’s memory by sharing a meal with someone you love, striking up a conversation with a stranger, or simply doing something kind — just as she would have. Monetary donations can be directed to the Kobacker House, which provided excellent care in her final days.
