Dave was born on September 4, 1949, to Francis and Elizabeth (Harbaugh) Clager. He was a proud graduate of Bishop Watterson High School (Class of 1967) and earned a degree in Business Administration from Franklin University. Dave spent his career as a corporate and commercial credit manager.
Dave was a lifelong fan of the Buckeyes, Blue Jackets, Reds, and Bengals. He was an avid Clydesdale runner into his 60s and ran countless races, including the Columbus Marathon and Pittsburgh Marathon. Dave volunteered at Riverside Hospital and supported the arts through volunteering at CAPA. He never passed up an opportunity to grab a beer with an old friend and was the world’s luckiest gambler (as demonstrated by his endless wins at scratch offs, keno, and bingo).
Dave married the love of his life, Sharon (Miller) Clager on September 4, 1971. They were married 53 wonderful years, and Dave often told people Sharon was “the best thing to ever happen to me.” Together they raised three children: Kyle Clager, Andy (Lauren) Clager, and Molly (TJ) Christensen. They shared a love of travel, music, and theatre. He was a proud and playful Pa to his three grandchildren: Johnny Clager, Charles Christensen, and Parker Christensen.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank Clager. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, his brother Larry (Cathie) Clager, and sisters Beth (Tom) Callahan, Carol (Bill) Rehak, and sister-in-law, Patti.
Known as a master storyteller and the life of the party, Dave often joked with family and friends that he may have been the inspiration behind Bob Seger’s “Night Moves” – and the truth might not be far off.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, big heart, and the unforgettable way he made everyone feel like part of his story.
