This is to Gary's family.
I just found that Gary had passed away February 1, 2022.  I did not notice that I had not received his Christmas card for the past 2 years due to changes in my life.

While getting ready to mail  my cards this year, I went through my cards from last year and discovered there was none from Gary.  So I went on the website to find out if something had happened.

To my dismay, I found he had passed.  Gary was such a dear freind and business partner of my deceased husband Bill Pool.  He kept in touch with me every year with notes and Christmas cards.  He will be missed very much.  His friendship was something I valued.  He was a good confident to me after Bill passed.

I am so very sorry for your loss, he was way too young.

I send prayers and blessing to all of his family members.  I do hope you see this memory post.

It was sad to learn of Gary’s passing. I was Gary’s sergeant in the vice squad. Gary had a great investigative mind and was a very hard worker. He and Al Shaub worked well together and went through a lot of anguish after the shooting they went through as the result of an attempted robbery on them while conducting an investigation. Gary was also a great friend and we enjoyed playing golf together, although I was never able to beat him. I have kept Gary’s family in my prayers and pray God’s blessing on them.

To his buddies at the Kentucky Military Institute, he was Tree. He was always about friendships and loyalty and connections. If you needed help, Tree would jump in -- and many times that meant enlisting the assistance of someone he knew. From KMI to the USAF, and throughout his career in law enforcement, he used these relationships to get things done. He was quick to help, but wouldn't hesitate to ask for help when he needed it for himself. That's just the way he was. Friendships meant something. Working with local charities was a big part of his life at retirement. He got a kick out of fishing in Canada and Florida (and even the pond just down the road). Tree enjoyed sports betting. He was passionate about his vast trove of Buckeye memorabilia. But what he cared about most -- what he loved the most -- was his two kids, Erin and Eric. Keep smiling, old friend, we will meet again.

Gary was a good to friend to my husband John and me.  I will be forever grateful for all the help and support he provided to John.    Gary was also played an important role in putting together the Unverferth House annual benefit dinner.

Gary was a fine person and good friend who I'll miss very much. It is such a shame his life was cut short as he was too young to go and still looked forward to many things. I spoke to him a couple of weeks before he died and he was feeling optimistic that he'd found some relief for his neuropathy and that he could soon get out more. I had hoped he would be able to visit us again in France in the near future.

He will be missed by many.

We've maintained a close relationship since our Vice days, throughout our careers and since retirement.
Rest In Peace my friend, you've earned it.

After Gary & Al Shaub had been involved in the fatal shooting of a subject who mistakenly attempt to rob them they came directly to my house and we all sat in my basement and had a few pops so they could unwind from the stress. Have no idea why they chose my place to unwind but it was a very emotional and touching moment for all of us. And although the years of passed I can still visualize Gary sitting there and attempting to relax before what was coming after. Great guy, Great investigator, he will be missed.
