Kathryn L. Wagner (nee Schenk) passed away peacefully surrounded by her children sharing cherished memories on January 13, 2026. Born January 07, 1933, to Albert J. and Margarete M. (Brant) Schenk on their family farm in Huron, Ohio, Kay was the last surviving member of the seven close-knit Schenk brothers and sisters. She attributed her love of gardening, animals, and family togetherness to being raised on a farm with loving and supportive parents and siblings during challenging times.
Kay is preceded in death by her late former husband William M. Wagner, brothers Albert (Sue), John (Mary Klein), and Robert (Alice Fortuna), and sisters Ruth Likes (Ralph), Margaret “Dolly” Ommert (Eugene), and Mary “Cookie” Boos (Carl). She is survived by sons William (Cindy) and Robert (Brenda), and daughters Diana and Rochelle Wagner, grandchildren William, Jr. (Michelle), Kathryn Fox (Richard), Caroline Wagner, Michael Wagner, and Alexander Hoye, and beloved nieces Peggy Ommert (Christhama Senanayake and daughter Amanda) and Candie Doerner (son Christopher, grandson Parker). Kay was a proud great grandmother to three delightful grandchildren, Pippa and Eldon Fox and Celeste Wagner.
Kay graduated from Huron High School in 1951, where she was active in many sports. In 1954, she graduated from Cleveland City Hospital School of Nursing with affiliation with the Frances P. Bolton School of Nursing. She then went on to graduate from The Ohio State University with a BA in Sociology with the goal of teaching family centered maternity nursing. She was employed at Riverside Methodist Hospital for the next 36 years working in maternity and behavioral health, finally retiring in 2004.
Over the years, Kay was involved in a multitude of activities, including going door-to- door volunteering for both the Heart and Lung Associations, leading her daughters’ Girl Scout troops, counseling at the Bell Center and volunteering at the Dublin Food Pantry. She was a long-term active member of the Dublin Community Church and lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association.
Kay took immense pride in her large, lovely flower garden, where she spent most of her free time, always with a loyal German Shepherd by her side. She loved to read and travel and had an extraordinary work ethic. She was a gifted teacher and nurse, was generous, humble, kind to all, and a role model for lifetime learning. Her children will miss her humor, compassion, understanding, and empathy. She put four children through college and provided them with a lifetime of warmth, support and a loving home. Her emotional strength, perseverance, and selflessness were her defining characteristics; she was an exceptional person, and she will be deeply missed.
Kay’s family would like to give a special thank you to Elizabeth Lockhart and Kevin Langen. Elizabeth and Kevin were blessings to our mother, the kind of friends who are hard to come by. Their devotion to her, their kindness, generosity, and unconditional availability were unfailing and remarkable to see. They were true and valued friends, much respected and appreciated by our family. Thank you to them.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. at Dublin Community Church at 81 W. Bridge Street, Dublin, Ohio 43017. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dublin Food Pantry, 6608 Dublin Center Drive, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
