Mary Catherine Utt passed away peacefully and beautifully, surrounded by family on August 28, 2023. Born on October 18, 1937 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Beatrice and Simone Barill. She was the youngest of 9, and the only daughter in the family. She graduated from Saint Francis High School in 1956 then married her high school sweetheart, Jim Utt, and had 3 children. She worked for the engineering department at West Virginia University for many years. Later, she and her family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she became a very active member and volunteer at her church, Good Shepherd Parish. There, she applied her wonderful artistic talent and creative flare to always keep her church looking beautiful in reverence to God. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her grandchildren, enriching their lives in many ways and spoiling them all with her love. We enjoyed many family vacations at the beach together, spending quality time as a family was always the most important thing to her. She was always the best at coming up with fun activities for her grandchildren on vacation, such as staging the greatest pirate treasure hunts ever. People will remember her as a selfless woman that always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She dedicated so much of her time to her community, church and family. She was a very talented cook, her family will continue to rave about her homemade Italian dinners (especially her “Memaw Salad”) for years to come.
She is survived by Hutchinson James Utt (husband of 66 years), Hutch (son) and his wife Pat, Lora Lee (daughter) and her husband Holger, Jason (son) and his wife Kendra, 7 grandchildren who adored her more than anything in the world; Michele, Laura, Mackenzie, Mary Morgan, Kyle, Ryan, and Zachary, as well as 3 great grandchildren; Aveyn, River, and Nayvie.
The Funeral Mass is at Saint Mary Delaware on Thursday, September 7 at 10:30AM, family and friends are invited back to the home of Jason and Kendra following the service.
Burial service with family at Gate of Heaven in Cincinnati, Ohio the following Saturday, September 9, at 11:30.
