Following his Army tour in Germany, Rick relocated to Southern California where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University. He retired from Frigidaire Credit Corporation.
Rick loved traveling and experiencing new places, Philadelphia Phillies baseball, admired horses, and going to the race tracks. In his younger years, he was a runner and played racquetball, skied down the black diamonds at Mammoth Mountain, and he eventually traded in his racquet to lace up his ballroom dancing shoes.
What Rick enjoyed most about life was traveling with friends and family. His favorite places included Myrtle Beach where you could find him deep sea fishing and cracking open crab legs, Italy where he would eat gelato twice a day and the Bahamas snorkeling with the fishes. Rick was an avid fan of the Columbus Crew Soccer Club and held season tickets from the first season they were in Columbus. He had several pets that he loved over the years and every dog that passed him took a keen liking to him. Aside from adventurer, his favorite role of his life was “dad” to Brigid for 34 years, whom he loved to embarrass, strongly encourage and taught to never doubt one’s self. Rick had a bursting and infectious laugh that will be missed and remembered by all.
He will especially be missed by his daughter, Brigid Henry of Los Angeles, CA; Brigid’s mother, Elizabeth Henry of Dublin, OH; siblings, Cathy Hall of Indian Rocks Beach, FL and James Henry of Scottsdale, AR; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Rick is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Florence Sumpter and brother, Ed Henry.
A special thank you for all the love, care, and support provided over the past several years by Elizabeth Henry, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Debbie and Kevin Daly, and special friend Cheryl Kramb. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff at The Ganzhorn Suites for all of their devotion and attention to Rick these last 18 months.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, where friends and family are welcome for a visitation held in Rick’s honor on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 5:00-8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
