Shawn Olds Cray

Shawn Olds Cray, beloved wife and devoted mother, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio. Shawn was born December 14, 1954 in Omaha, Nebraska, daughter of the late Shirley Michalski and Thomas Hoxie. Shawn graduated from Fairborn High School and attended The Ohio State University. She worked with the Columbus Police Department for 14 years. She received a Purple Heart with the Columbus Police for being injured on the job. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Delaware, Ohio Amateur Ham Radio Club. She truly enjoyed fiddling around on her ham radio, doing crafts, taking care of her husband and her dogs, loving on her grandchildren, and finding long lost family through Ancestry.com. Shawn was a selfless, loving, and supportive woman, always putting everyone’s needs before her own. She will always be remembered for how much she loved her family, and her hugs will be deeply missed by many. She is survived by her husband, Carl R. Handley; son, Michael Thomas Cray; grandchildren, Rowan and Radley; siblings, Shannon Hoxie, Sharon Segreti, Allen Michalski, and Lance Hoxie; nieces and nephews, Scott Hoxie, Stacia Diggins, and Samantha Marek; and beloved companions, Trip and Roscoe. A private family gathering will be held at a private residence on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 12-2 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in Shawn’s memory to the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
