

Bernice Elsie Bullyan, 91, of Duluth went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, January 6, 2017 at Viewcrest Health Care Center. She was born on December 12, 1925 to Peter and Anna Pikkarainen in Duluth.
Bernice graduated from Denfeld High School. After high school she worked many different places throughout West Duluth. Later in life she worked for St. Luke’s for many years retiring in the X-ray department.
She enjoyed decorating her yard and tending to her flower gardens. She loved taking rides up the shore looking at rocks and collecting agates. Bernice was very active in Elim Lutheran Church and the red hat society. She was also the secretary and treasurer for the Rice Lake Township where she was also involved with the 55 club. Bernice was very community oriented and had a lifelong membership with the American Legion and the VFW Post 137. Bernice was a wonderful woman and she lived her life with kindness and dignity until the end. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with all of them, no matter what the occasion was.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charles Hartley Sr.; second husband, Clayton Hendrickson; brothers, Peter, Rich, and Arthur; and sisters, Doris and Marion.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Mark M. Bullyan; son, Charles (Betty) Hartley Jr.; step-daughter, Karan (George) Simonson; grandchildren, Sean (Lisa), and Wayne; step-grandson, Jason (Darcie LaFlamme) Simonson; great-grandchildren, Sean, Timothy, Isaiah, and Amarah; step-great-grandchildren, Matayah, and Brock; sister, Ruth Workman; brother-in-law, Joe (Nancy) Bullyan; sister-in-laws, Mary Behn and Helen Bullyan; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Tasha.
The family would like to thank the staff at Viewcrest for the excellent and compassionate care Bernice received.
Visitation: 11:00 until the 12:00 noon Memorial Service Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Elim Lutheran Church, 6101 Cody Street, Duluth. Inurnment will be in Oneota Cemetery.
