Ella was born in Culver, Minnesota, on April 27, 1915 to Olaus and Thea Paulson. In 1937, she was united in marriage to Vern Kinetz at St. Paul’s American Lutheran Church in Duluth. They enjoyed 51 happy years of marriage until his death in 1988.
Ella leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and kindness. She was a gentle soul with a loving and generous heart. Above all else, Ella was a devoted mother and grandmother who was very proud of her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Ella was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and she loved to tell stories of growing up on the farm when life was much simpler. One of her fondest memories from childhood was of giving speeches and reciting poetry on the Big Rock in the hayfield with her brother, Orrin. After raising her children, Ella went to work as a teacher’s assistant with hearing impaired children at Lincoln Elementary. She and Vern enjoyed an active social life with many friends. They loved dancing at the American Legion, and she could play a mean card game of 3-13.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vern; grandson, Ross Kinetz; and her eight brothers and sisters.
Ella is survived by her children: Jim (Marilou), Roger, and Barb (Art) Boline; former daughter-in-law Margaret Kinetz; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Heartfelt appreciation is extended to her ‘other family’ on the Elm Unit of Chris Jensen for the wonderful care and love they gave to Ella during her stay there and also to the St. Mary's Essentia Palliative Care team for their compassion and kindness during Ella’s last days.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service, Saturday, October 10 in Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N. 56th Ave. W., Duluth. Please leave a memory of Ella or words of support for the family at www.bellbrothersfuneralhome.com.
