After 87 years of an incredible life, Emma J. Himebaugh passed away peacefully Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Essentia, St. Mary’s Health Care, surrounded by her loving family.
Emma was born April 12th 1924 to Thomas and Mary (Baznik) Shubitz. She graduated from Stanbrook Hall. Emma subsequently supported the war effort as an electronics assembler at St. Paul Holman Field, working on B-24 Liberator bombers.
In 1945 Emma married Cameron T. Himebaugh, whom she accompanied on numerous military postings during his career with the U.S. Marine Corps. Re-locating back to Duluth in 1962, she pursued her love of work as a quality control supervisor at the former Duluth Avionics. After raising her family she went back to school and became an LPN, working at St. Marys hospital in Duluth. After retiring, she continued to volunteer at Chris Jensen Nursing Home and Benedictine Health Center, and spent many years as a “church lady” at St. Benedict Church.
Emma is preceded in death by her husband of 59 ½ years Cameron; brothers, Thomas and James Shubitz, sister, Mary Glamuzina.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Robert) Tanski, of Duluth, Patricia(Donald)Tolzmann, of Cincinnati, OH, Lawrence(Pamela)Himebaugh, of Oakdale, MN, Richard Himebaugh, St. Paul, MN and Janet(Thomas)Rosener, Grand Canyon, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; she is also survived by sisters Dorothy (Rudy)Janchar, Kansas City, Mo, Genevieve Shubitz, Duluth, MN and brothers Paul(Ann) Shubitz, Tuscon, AZ and John(Rita)Shubitz, Waukegan, IL.
Visitation from 10:00am until the 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, December 7th at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1419 St. Benedict Street.
