Eugene A. “Bud” Ebert, 86 of Duluth, MN passed away on March 19, 2015. He was born in Burlington, Iowa on April 14, 1928 to Albert and Lucille Ebert. He also lived in Minocqua, WI and Libertyville, IL and grew up in St. Charles, IL graduating from St. Charles High School in 1947. He graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1951 with a degree in Education. He received his Master's Degree in Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
Bud served in the Army during the Korean War. After serving he began his teaching and coaching career at Monmouth High School in Monmouth, IL. In 1953 he moved to Libertyville where he taught U.S. History and World History. He also coached football, basketball and tennis. He was appointed as a Principal in 1963 and served in that capacity for 25 years at Libertyville High School until he retired in 1988. He was an educator for 35 years.
On August 17, 1957 he married Charlotte Horn of Effingham, IL. They loved to travel and visited all 50 states.
Bud lived life to the fullest. He was a charter member of the Illinois Principal Association. His love of flying and being a pilot added to extensive travel in the United States. He flew for over 50 years; was past President of the “Stick and Rudder Flying Club”, Waukegan, IL, and a partner in Kenosha Aero, WI. Upon retirement in 1988 he and Charlotte moved to their lake home in Minocqua, WI. While living there he was Chairman of the Lakeland Airport Commission, Chairman of the Board of Appeals for Lac du Flambeau, served as President of the Lac du Flambeau Home Owners Association and was an officer on the Board of Directors of the Northwood’s Wildlife Center.
In 2001 he and Charlotte moved to Westwood on the campus of the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN.
Charlotte, his wife of 50 years passed away Oct. 10, 2007.
He is survived by his second wife Marian; daughters, Betsy (Nick) Miller of McHenry, IL, Jean (Chuck) Conner of Duluth; grandchildren, Lee Cutler, Chris (Kristina) Conner and Courtney (Jaime) Hulsebusch and three great grandchildren, Malayah, Olivia, and Gradyn, and “adopted” daughter, Mari Wasilowski.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Long for the care given to Bud.
Memorial Service: 1:00 pm Sunday, March 22, 2015 in the Benedictine Healthcare Center with a time of fellowship to follow the service.
