Florence graduated from Milltown High School and later moved to Duluth with her sister, Nina to attend Warner’s Beauty School. She received her beautician’s license in 1945 and worked part-time as a beautician throughout a good portion of her life.
Florence married John A. Peterson May 6, 1946 in Luck Wisconsin. They made their home in Duluth. She considered her job as a wife, mother, and homemaker to be most important.
After John passed away in 1976, Florence married Verner Carlson in 1979. They moved to South Superior but never gave up their ties to their friends in Duluth.
Florence was a devoted member of Elim Lutheran Church. Her love of the Lord was paramount in her life and she displayed it through her many good works. She was a member of the Sarah Circle, taught Sunday school, was a choir member, and served on many committees and boards.
Florence will be remembered for her infectious enthusiasm towards life. She loved to cook, travel, and garden. She was an obsessive newspaper clipper, saving articles that contained the names of anyone she knew or had met. She also clipped those little bits of wisdom and cartoons she thought someone may enjoy.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Peterson; infant son, Keith Warren Peterson; and her 11 siblings.
Florence is survived by her husband, Verner; two sons, Kenneth (Kathi) and Steven (Barbara); four grandchildren, Toby Peterson, Jodi (Troy) Nelson, Rebecca and John Peterson; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Olin Nelson; sister, Mae Klawitter; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service Thursday, May 28 in Elim Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
