

Joan was born in Duluth on October 4, 1931 to Armand and Mary (Gibson) Foucault. She was orphaned at age 7 and was adopted by Alvin and Malvina Malmstein. She graduated from Proctor High School and was soon married to Charles Gilderman on October 7, 1950. To this union 7 children were born. Joan spent the next many years raising her family and working at several area businesses. Joan loved to spend time painting, sewing and knitting as well as pine needling. She especially enjoyed fishing off the dock at Lake Nichols. Joan was a highly regarded woman with tremendous integrity. Her warm personality and kind heart will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her biological and adoptive parents.
Joan is survived by seven children; Charles “Chuck” (Candy), Dan (Sunny), Kerry (Kathy), Diane (Dave) Bell, Brian (Patsy), Jill Gilderman and Glen (Terrie); 17 grandchildren, Amy, Kory, Gina, Sarah, Mathew, Angela, Bailey, Jon, Adam, Ryan, Amber, Amanda, Cody, Nichole, Allison, Katie and Boston; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Marilyn Curtician of Greenville, PA, Darlene (Russ) Godbout of Carlton, Gene (Gerri) Smith of Munger, Richard (Gayle) Malmstein of Proctor and Bev (Randy) Janke of Alborn; brother-in-law, Art (Lil) Gilderman; special friend, Dave Denzler; good friend & neighbor, Marilyn Tygart; as well as many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Bell Brothers Funeral Home 601 N. 56th Ave. W. Duluth and again one hour prior to the funeral service at 4 P.M. at Forbes United Methodist Church 33 Grove St. Proctor on Sunday, August 14, 2011 with Rev. Pamela Barbour officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Oneota Cemetery.
